Ranked XC, Field Hockey Swing into Action

Rochester has a chance to showcase of of the best in men's and women's cross country plus field hockey this Saturday  - with all of it on or close to campus.

The men's and women's cross country teams are hosting the annual Yellowjacket Invitational this Saturday in Genesee Valley Park. The men's race goes at 11 am, the women's race at noon.

There are 25 men's teams competing and 24 women's teams competing. The larger field is due to the fact that Rochester will host the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship on November 10 and a number of teams want the opportunity to run early on the NCAA course.

Rochester's men are ranked 20th in this week's poll conducted by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. There are five nationally-ranked schools in the meet: #4 Geneseo, #9 Cortland, #20, Rochester, #21 Dickinson, and #31 St. Lawrence.

The Yellowjacket women are ranked 10th regionally in this week's poll. The women's race boasts five nationally-ranked teams: #4 Geneseo, #10 St. Lawrence, #16 Dickinson, #31 The College of New Jersey, and #33 Plattsburgh.

Rochester broke into the Division III Top 20 poll conducted by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association this week. The Yellowjackets are ranked 20th nationally and sport a 6-0 record after defeating Elmira College, 4-1, on Wednesday. Rochester opens Liberty League play at Edwin Fauver Stadium at noon on Saturday against Union College.
