ROCHESTER, NY (Oct. 28) – Four Yellowjackets scored while three others had assists in a balanced Rochester attack. The 4-1 victory at Edwin Fauver Stadium was the 47th career win for the Class of 2004.
Sarah Crimmins scored the Yellowjackets' first goal at 16:49. Karen Forsythe took a corner kick to set up a shot by Alison Collins. The Engineers' keeper was able to block this opportunity but Crimmins booted the ball back her way to put Rochester up 1-0. The Yellowjackets struck again in the first half when Kristin Kelly sailed the ball high into the net from 40 yards out at 33:15. The keeper was able to get to this ball, but not until after it was already in the goal. Rochester started the second half off on the right foot with a goal scored at 48:18. Jenica Schmidt headed the ball inside the near post off a perfectly placed Forsythe corner kick. RPI got on the board with fifteen minutes left to play when Katie Lavelle kicked in the rebound of a Rochester save. The Yellowjackets answered a minute later, at 76:18, when Sarah Tarka shot the ball straight into the goal from 8 yards out. Collins and Anne McMahon set up the opportunity with successive passes from the left wing.
Sarah Malecki had four saves to earn the win for Rochester. Regina Primm made five saves in goal for RPI.
With the victory, the Yellowjackets improve to 8-5-2. Rochester will finish the regular season with three road games against University Athletic Association opponents Washington University, the University of Chicago, and Case Western Reserve University. The Engineers finished the regular season tonight at 8-6-0.
The evening's game was the final regular season home appearance for six Rochester seniors. As a class, they have helped the Yellowjackets to post season play in each of the three previous years. Their first season, Rochester played in the ECAC Northeast Regional Tournament. Their sophomore year, they helped the Yellowjackets to a UAA title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Class of 2004 was an integral part of the University of Rochester's ECAC Northeast Regional Tournament Championship, which the Yellowjackets hosted at Edwin Fauver Stadium. The class also has been successful off the field. They have been honored with numerous individual academic awards. Furthermore, they have helped the team earn the 15th highest G.P.A. among senior colleges playing women's soccer (this includes 200 schools). The team's seniors are: Alison Collins, Sarah Crimmins, Sarah Malecki, Liz Morrison, Lindsay Reilly, and Jenica Schmidt.
