CORTLAND, NY (Sept. 10) - SUNY Cortland, ranked seventh in Division III, needed four late goals to pull away for a 4-0 victory over the Yellowjacket field hockey team here today.
The Yellowjackets battled the Red Dragons evenly for 48 minutes. Rochester held a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first half and forced Cortland goaltender Joanna Lent to make three saves.
With 22:03 left, Cortland broke through for the gamewinner, scored by Ashley Ostrander. The 'Jackets kept the deficit at 1-0 for another 14 minutes. Cortland took advantage of Rochester pressing forward in search of an equalizer and scored three times in the last 8:07 to seal the win.
Pamela Sheffield made three saves on 11 Cortland shots.
The Yellowjackets are 2-1. Cortland is 2-0.
