Sophomore Nate Micklos scored off a free kick five minutes into the game and he and senior Nick Wheeler also added goals off penalty kicks to give the Yellowjackets a 3-0 victory here in Fauver Stadium.
With the shutout, Rochester improves to 4-1-0. Geneseo is 1-3-1.
Following a Geneseo foul, Rochester was awarded a free kick, taken by senior Brandon Laws. Laws booted it from left wing toward the net and Micklos charged in and booted it past goalkeeper Chris Stock at the 4:54 mark to give Rochester the early 1-0 advantage.
After a foul to Gary Stom in the penalty box, Wheeler converted a penalty kick at 58:00. Micklos added a second goal at 72:09 off another penalty kick following a Geneseo handball in the penalty box.
The Yellowjackets had a 17-5 shot advantage thanks to a solid defensive effort by the backline of Laws, Nate Rimmke, Ross D'Eredita and Steve Maltzman. Goalkeeper Brian Minehan did not have to make a save. He split the shutout with fellow goalkeeper Aaron Bernstein, who made a save in relief.
The win was Rochester's 450th of all time. The program began in 1930. It was also the 50th career win for UR coach Chris Apple.
Rochester heads north to Canton this Tuesday, September 16th, for a regional showdown with the St. Lawrence Saints, currently ranked 2nd in this week's NSCAA/adidas Top 25 poll. The Yellowjackets return to Fauver Stadium next Saturday, September 20th when they host Clarkson. Game time is 4 p.m.
