The Yellowjacket Women's Basketball team opened the 2004-2005 campaign with a win in the first round of the Chuck Resler Tournament, topping the Blue Knights of SUNY-Geneseo 59-41 in the Palestra tonight.
The 'Jackets were led by senior Ashley Latimer, who posted a career-high 16 points. Also scoring in double digits were Jessie Graham with 14 and Megan Fish with 10. Emily Bango dished out 8 assists for a career high to lead the Yellowjackets. Kelly Wescott pulled down 9 rebounds.
Scoring for the Blue Knights was led by Jackie Fertitta, with 10 points, and Jessica Chambers with 9. Patricia McGrath had 9 rebounds.
Rochester opened the scoring with a three from Graham, going on a 12-2 run in the first 10 minutes of the game. Rochester led by as much as 20 points in the first half of the game, with the first half resulting in a 34-15 lead for the 'Jackets.
Geneseo opened the scoring in the second half, but was unable to put together a run to cut the Rochester lead.
Geneseo will play The College of New Jersey Saturday at 3pm in the third place game. Rochester will tip off against Bowdoin College in the championship game at 6pm Saturday in the Palestra.
