Kelly Wescott scored a game-high 21 points and broke the 1,000-career point plateau as the women's basketball team defeated visiting Hartwick College, 71-59, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Megan Fish and Jessie Graham scored 12 points each for the Yellowjackets (2-1). Rochester is ranked 11th in Division III.
Lindsay Wilson scored 19 points for the Hawks. Alanna Adams had 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Laura Shockro added 10 points. Hartwick is 0-1.
Wescott raised her career total to 1,005 points. She is seventh in career scoring, four points behind Tracey Buettgens (1991-94, 1009 pts.) and seven behind Michele Wilson (1986-90, 1,012 pts.).
Rochester went on a lengthy 19-5 over 11 minutes to take a 30-12 lead with 6:08 left in the half. Graham scored six points in the run. Fish and Danielle Muller had four each.
Hartwick asserted itself by scoring 10 straight: Shockro scored five of the 10. Rochester led, 37-26, at halftime.
Wescott took charge in the second half, scoring Rochester's first 11 points. A layup by Muller increased the margin to 20, 50-30, with 15:30 left. Hartwick rallied again. With Adams scoring seven points and Wilson getting six more, Hartwick chipped the lead to six, 54-48, on a layup by Shelly Miles with 9:00 left.
Graham sank her fourth three-point goal of the night. That started a 13-0 run that put it out of reach.
Rochester is 2-1 and travels to Elmira on Tuesday.
