Junior forward Nate Micklos scored three goals Saturday night to tie a 40-year-old school record for goalscoring prowess.
He had three goals and one assist as the Yellowjackets defeated Case Western Reserve, 4-0, in the regular season finale at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
That output gives him 18 goals for the year. It ties the existing school mark set originally in 1964 by George Schmergel and equaled in 1973 by Reed Martin.
Micklos also raised his career total to 40 goals, one shy of Martin's career goalscoring mark of 41, set from 1971-74.
Ben Cross scored the fourth Yellowjacket goal. Gary Stom and Jeremy Goico had two assists apiece. Rochester outshot the Spartans, 15-1. Aaron Bernstein played the first 79:40 in goal. He picked up his third win and did not have to make a save. Paco Corbalan played the final 10:20. He did not have to make a save either.
Micklos opened the scoring at 21:31, connecting after passes from Stom and Goico. He increased the lead to 2-0 at 29:00, heading home a pass from Mike Springer after a long throw-in from Stom.
He made it three goals in a 12-minute span when he drove the ball home from the edge of the crease after Goico's pass at 33:41. In the second half, Micklos boomed a corner kick from the right corner to Tom Carlson. He sent it to left wing where Cross lined it back across the face of the goal and into the right side netting at 53:52.
The Yellowjackets finished the regular season at 12-2-4, 3-0-4 in the UAA. CWRU is 3-12-2 overall, 1-6 in the UAA.
