Johns Hopkins University, ranked 25th in Division III, defeated the Yellowjackets, 34-17, in Baltimore on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays used a strong runing game and an accurate passing attack to win their ninth straight home game.
For Rochester, junior QB Aaron Molisani passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He hit freshman Tom Shay with a nine-yard scoring pass midway through the fourth quarter and senior Dave Sanok with an 18-yard strike in the game's final minutes.
Molisani's total for completions (28) was a career high. His totals for yardage (284) and attempts (41) were just shy of breaking his career bests (42 attempts, 288 yds.).
Eleven Yellowjackets caught passes. David Ferris had seven catches for 51 yards. Nate Gibbons hauled in six balls for 95 yards.
Rochester rushed for a net of 79 yards. Pat O'Brien had 31 yards on 11 totes. Molisani gained 26 yards on 13 carries. Galen Williams rushed three tiems for 21 yards.
Molisani hit Gibbons with consecutive passes of 19 yards and 24 yards on the game's first drive to move the ball deep into JHU territory. Rochester took a 3-0 lead on Rob Corey's 25-yard field goal.
After an exchange of fumbles, the Blue Jays drove 46 yards in nine plays to tie it on Ben Scott's 27-yard field goal.
Molisani went back to work. He hit Gibbons for 11 yards and Ferris for 18. After a pair of runs by O'Brien and Galen Williams gained a net of 12 yards, he found Ferris for 14 more. Gibbons made another catch, this one for 14 yards that took the ball down to the six. The JHU defense stiffened and after a sack of Molisani, Corey's field goal attempt from 30 yard out was wide left.
JHU drove 80 yards in 11 plays to take the lead for good at 10-3 on Zach DiIonno's six-yard pass to Steve Eno. On the next possession, DiIonno bootlegged 22 yards down the left side for a TD that put the hosts ahead, 17-3, with 5:59 left in the second period.
