Fueled by a career high 17 points from Emily Bango, the women's basketball team defeated RIT, 66-55, at the Palestra on Tuesday night.
Rochester, which is ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to 6-2. RIT is 3-4.
Bango finished with 17 points, six assists, seven steals, and five rebounds in 28 minutes. She hit 6 of 9 shots from the floor, 4 of 6 from the line.
Kelly Wescott added a season's high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Ten of the 14 Yellowjackets who played scored at least two points.
RIT had three players in double figures - Ramata Diallo scored 13, Christina Ermie and Karli Couchman had 12 each.
Bango made two layups to key a 13-0 run late in the first half. That helped Rochester pull away from a 17-14 lead to a 30-14 bulge with 4:30 to play. Wescott hit a pair of layups, Joy Sadaly drilled a three-pointer from right wing, and Megan Krebbeks drove for a layup. It was 33-23 at the half.
RIT rallied within four, 41-37, with 13:00 left in the game. A free throw by Bango and two Wescott layups got it back to nine, 46-37.
After a Tiger three-point play, five players scored in a 12-0 run over 3:28 to make it 58-40 with 7:01 left. The Tigers made it closer at the end, outscoring the Yellowjacket reserves 9-0 in the final 1:49.
