Women Top RPI in Soccer

Maureen Dudiak (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) scored one goal and set up another to lead the University of Rochester to a 3-0 victory over visiting Rensselaer at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Angela Heaney (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) and Mary Walsh (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) also scored goals for the Yellowjackets.

Adrianne Hulchanski (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) and Molly Leitch (Rocky River, OH/Rocky River) combined for their fifth consecutive shutout and ninth in the last 10 games. Hulchanski played the first half and Leitch the second half. Neither player had to make a save. Rochester outshot the Red Hawks, 23-1 and held an 18-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) made eight saves for RPI in a gallant effort under trying conditions. A cold rain fell steadily throughout the match.

Dudiak opened the scoring at 24:48, less than a minute after coming on as a substitute. Ashley Weagraff (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) intercepted a clearance and angled the ball to Dudiak at the top of the penalty arc. She went around a defender, then bounced a low shot beyond Marandino into the left side of the net.

Heaney doubled the lead at 38:29. Kristen Leskow (Endwell, NY/Union Endicott) played a short corner to her at the right edge of the crease. She turned and drove a rising shot inside the near post and into the roof of the net.

Walsh completed the scoring with her ninth goal of the year at 71:34. A short corner by Laura Bojko (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) went to Leskow. She hit a rising shot from left wing that caromed off the crossbar. The rebound landed at the feet of Dudiak on right wing. She served it to the near post for a short header by Walsh.

Rochester improved to 12-1-2 overall. The Yellowjackets are ranked 16th in this week's Division III poll. Rochester has shut out 12 of its 15 opponents.

RPI is 3-10-1.
