Hobart Tops Gridders, 42-25

Doug Blakowski ran 74 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to spur visiting Hobart College to a 42-25 victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

The Statesmen had three scoring plays of 52 yards or longer and turned two Rochester turnovers into touchdowns.

Hobart finished the regular season at 8-1 overall, 6-1 in the Liberty League. The Statesmen kept their hopes alive for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Rochester finished at 4-6 overall, 3-4 in the Liberty League.

Kyle Martin turned a flat pass from Shawn Mizro into a 77-yard TD in the second quarter and Corey Cage ran 52 yards for a TD with 5:43 left in the game. Hobart totaled 397 yards in offense, 245 on the ground, 152 in the air. Mizro completed 8 of 16 throws, two for touchdowns. He was intercepted once.

Rochester had 343 yards in offense. The Yellowjackets rushed for 136 and passed for 207 more. Aaron Molisani was 21 of 43 and one TD. He was intercepted twice.

Hobart jumped ahead 21-0 on Blakowski's run, the Mizro-to-Martin pass play, and a 16-yard fumble return for a TD by Jamie Anderson.

Molisani threw a seven-yard scoring pass to David Ferris to cap a 35-yard drive following a 50-yard kickoff return by Nate Gibbons. The TD catch was the 10th of the year for Ferris and the 18th of his career. He tied the career record held by his brother, Brian (2000-03) and Guy Bailey (1965-67). It pulled the Yellowjackets within 21-7 with 2:47 left in the half.

Mizro marched Hobart 65 yards in eight plays and finished it with a 20-yard TD pass to Steve Sorhaindo with 23 seconds left.

Nolan Robinson returned an interception 67 yards for a Hobart touchdown and a 35-10 lead with 4:37 left in the third quarter.

In the final period, the Yellowjackets got rushing TDs from Matt Bielecki (five yards) and Galen Williams (one yard) sandwiched around the Cage 52-yard TD.

Bielecki rushed for 98 yards on 20 attempts. He finished the season with 1,124 yards, the second highest total in school history.

Blakowski rushed 21 times for 158 net yards for Hobart.
