ONEONTA, NY - Rochester was shut out in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III National Tournament when host SUNY Oneonta defeated the Yellowjackets, 3-0.
The Red Dragons, who received a bye in the first round of the tournament, advanced to the national quarterfinals to play Tufts University of Massachusetts.
Rochester played evenly with the Dragons in the first 45 minutes. Oneonta broke through for three goals in a span of 22 minutes in the second half to move on. Patricia Jaeger volleyed in a shot at 55:10 for a 1-0 lead. Christine Marra (60:21) and Laura Pierino (77:56) added two other goals on assists from Mary Velan on left wing.
The Yellowjackets held a 10-9 advantage in shots and a 6-2 margin in corner kicks, but couldn't crack through for a goal.
Adrianne Hulchanski made one save. The three goals were the first she has allowed this season.
