Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Skidmore Edges UR, 3-2 in LL

The Yellowjacket field hockey team lost, 3-2, to 13th-ranked Skidmore College in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships at William Smith College on Friday afternoon.

Rochester withstood a furious Thoroughbred onslaught . Skidmore took 28 shots, 17 on goal, but sophomore goaltender Rachel Cahan showed every reason she was selected as the First Team Liberty League goaltender. She had 14 saves, seven in each half. Skidmore was up, 1-0, after 5:11, 2-0 after 11:27, and had a 3-0 lead midway through the first 35 minutes. Emily Clark set up the first Skidmore goal, then scored the next two. At 11:27, she finished a scramble in front by tucking it behind Cahan. Six minutes later, she hit a bouncing shot that hopped over Cahan's pads into the cage. Sixteen minutes into the second half, the Yellowjackets cut it down to one goal. Kari Plewniak and Mary DiMatteo had the assists as Butler scored off a penalty corner with a bouncing shot. It was her sixth goal of the year.

Skidmore advances to the Liberty League final to play William Smith on Saturday at 2 pm. The Herons rolled past fourth-seeded Union, 6-1.

Rochester is 10-9 overall.
