The Yellowjackets ran into an offensive juggernaut and lost to St. John Fisher on Saturday night.
Rochester produced 296 yards in offense - 133 on the ground, 163 through the air - but SJFC piled up a school record 672 yards and won, 58-32, at Fisher Field.
The Yellowjackets made a run in the second quarter (down 21-0) thanks to a good drive and good defense. Matt Bielecki dove one yard for a TD to cap a 13-play, 73 yard drive that ate up 5:15. Rob Corey added the PAT.
On Fisher's next possession, Pat Gallagher (12 tackles, two sacks) dropped Fisher QB Nick Suchyna behind the line and Brendon Reyes recovered the fumble. It set up a six-play, 20-yard drive that ended with a Corey field goal from 22 yards out.
The Cardinals broke out to a 34-10 lead, but Rochester used a dynamic 78-yard kickoff return for a TD by Mike Sondericker and a two-point pass from Aaron Molisani to Bielecki to pull within 34-18. After a pair of long TDs by the Cardinals, Molisani ran for a six yard TD and threw another two point pass, this one to Matt Rivers. Early int he fourth quarter, Molisani threw a nine yard TD pass to David Ferris. The two point try failed and 48-32 was as close as the Yellowjackets could come.
Bielecki finished with 92 yards rushing on 16 tries. Molisani was 14 of 30 for 163, one TD and four interceptions. Sondericker returned seven kickoffs for 215 yards.
McCarthy and Nick Grow each had 12 tackles. Grow had one and a half sacks.
