Rochester dropped a 1-0 decision to William Smith College on the road Tuesday in a matchup of nationally-ranked women's soccer programs.
The Yellowjackets entered the game ranked number nine nationally. William Smith is number 20 in this week's Division III poll. The contest also paired the two winningest coaches in Division III women's soccer - Terry Gurnett of Rochester and Aliceann Wilbur of William Smith.
Rochester outshot the hosts, 14-7, but WSC goalkeeper Nikki Dudley made eight saves. The Herons scored midway through the opening period when a shot by Laura Burnett-Kurie deflected in off the crossbar.
Molly Leitch made two saves for the Yellowjackets. Rochester is 3-1. William Smith is 5-0. The Yellowjackets play at eighth-ranked Union on Saturday.
