CORTLAND, N.Y. - Fueled by two goals from Erin Carballo, the women's soccer team defeated Wilkes University, 4-0, at SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon.
Rochester scored all four goals in the first 35 minutes of the match. The Yellowjackets are 9-3-2 overall. Wilkes is 9-7.
Bridgette Varin scored the opening goal at 10:06 when she connected from inside the penalty area. Carballo made it 2-0 four minutes later - at 14:08 - by volleying home a shot from 25 yards out after across from Lindsay Rood.
The lead went to 3-0 at 20:29 on Carballo's second goal of the match. Ali Streeter put the ball in Carballo's path for a chip over the goalie. Kirsten Ross completed the scoring at 34:37 by poking home a shot from short range.
Rochester held a 13-3 advantage on shots and 7-0 on corner kicks. Molly Leitch played the first 34:37, leaving after the Ross goal. She did not have to make a save. Kate Levy played the final 55:23 and made two saves.
Jessica Berkey started in goal for Wilkes. She made three saves and allowed three goals. She was replaced by Liz Pauly who stopped five shots in 68 minutes and allowed one goal.
