Game Recap: Field Hockey |

F. Hockey Blanked by Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The field hockey team applied heavy pressure in the second half but couldn't crack the Oneonta defense and lost, 3-0, on Saturday.

A late first half goal gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead (scored off a penalty corner by Ainsley Stoll). The hosts quickly made it 2-0 just 3:32 into the second half. Ashley Valentine pushed a pass into the circle and Kathryn Kubaryk, who had lost her balance, managed to sweep the ball into the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Rochester stepped up the offensive pressure. The Yellowjackets unleashed 12 shots, a number of which were blocked by defenders (Oneonta had three defensive saves), and earned 12 penalty corners. The Yellowjackets couldn't get on the scoreboard.

Oneonta got a third goal on a penalty stroke after the Yellowjackets were whistled for dragging down an opponent in the circle. Samantha Merrit, who assisted on Stoll's opener, drove the stroke home at 57:42.

Rachel Cahan made six saves for the Yellowjackets in the full 70 minutes. Erika Dombkowski made two saves for Oneonta.

The Yellowjackets are 10-7. Oneonta evened its record at 9-9.
