GRANTHAM, Pa. - Defending national champion Messiah College scored two goals early in the second half and rolled to a 6-0 win over Rochester in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Nick Thompson scored three goals for the Falcons, who improved to 20-2. Messiah plays Montclair State University in the national quarterfinals with a berth at the Final Four at stake.
Thompson's header at 38:25 broke a 0-0 tie. He made it 2-0 just 3:48 into the second half. Geoff Pezon increased the lead to 3-0 at 54:56.
The Yellowjackets were outshot, 15-6. Michael Peacock made four saves in goal. Messiah's Jared Clugton made one save and his defense cleared one ball off the line.
The Yellowjackets finished the season at 15-3-2.
