CLEVELAND - The women's soccer team ran into a stiff challenge from Case goalkeeper Kirsten McClain and wound up tying the Spartans, 1-1, in double overtime on Saturday night.
Rochester's goal was scored by Bridgette Varin at 18:15. The Spartans knotted matters at 71;43 when Bridget Mason knocked Caitlin Miller's corner kick past Molly Leitch.
The shots were relatively close in the first 90 minutes. Rochester stepped up the pressure in the first overtime, outshooting Case, 6-2. Leitch saved both Case shots (she finished with nine stops). McClain had five of her 15 saves in the first sudden death period.
Rochester finished the regular season at 10-5-3, 3-2-2 in the UAA. Case wound up 6-11-1, 0-6-1 in the UAA.
