CLEVELAND – Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Peacock made seven saves to post his fifth shutout this year as the University of Rochester won the University Athletic Association men's soccer championship with a 3-0 victory over eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve.
By virtue of the title, the Yellowjackets will receive a Pool A (automatic) bid into the NCAA Division III playoffs. It will be Rochester's third straight playoff appearance and its second UAA title in the last three years. Case won the UAA crown last year, beating Rochester, 2-1 at Fauver Stadium.
Rochester took only five shots at goal, but three of them wound up behind Case goalkeeper Chad Skidmore. Bobby Milenovici made it 1-0 at 10:06, driving home a pass from Nick Mikolenko. Steve Welles scored an unassisted goal at 43:12, and J.J. Dennstedt completed the scoring at 84:25 with Patrick Ripp picking up the assist.
The Yellowjackets are unbeaten in their last 11 matches – 10 victories and a tie. In that run, Rochester has beaten three Top 10 teams, and all by shutout: 1-0 over #9 NYU on Oct. 6, 1-0 in double overtime over #10 Emory on Oct. 14, and 3-0 over #8 Case on Nov. 3.
Rochester improved to 13-2-2 overall, 6-0-1 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets won the UAA title by one point over Emory.
