GENEVA, N.Y. - William Smith College withstood a strong Rochester challenge in the second half and defeated the Yellowjackets, 2-0.
The Herons scored both goals in a span of less than six minutes in the first half. The opening goal came at 23:37. William Smith's Laura Burnett-Kurie tried to cross the ball to a teammate and a Yellowjacket defender deflected it. The ball trickled over the Rochester goalline for a 1-0 lead.
At 29:00, Burnett-Kurie sent Brelynn Nasypany on a breakaway and she scored from 17 yards out.
Rochester pressed in the second half, outshooting the Herons, 8-2, and producing seven corner kicks (9-4 for the game).
Molly Leitch made two saves for the Yellowjackets. Alice Binns made five saves for William Smith and the Heron defense cleared two balls off the line.
Rochester entered the game ranked #5 in Division III. William Smith was ranked #24.
