SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Homestanding Skidmore College jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over Rochester in field hockey on Friday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds improved to 3-1 in the Liberty League, 7-3 overall. Skidmore is tied for first place in the league standings with St. Lawrence and RPI. Rochester is 1-3 in the Liberty League, 9-5 overall.
Skidmore took a 1-0 lead at 19:28 when Annie Rosencrans scored her fifth goal of the season. Her goal came after Rochester's Danielle Pearson saved shots by Chelsea Carroll and Rosencrans.
Carroll doubled the lead at 52:02, scoring her first goal of the season.
Allison Beardsley got the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard at 59:30 when she put her sixth goal of the season into the cage.
Pearson made 13 saves on 18 Skidmore shots. Thoroughbreds goaltender Liz Catinella made four saves. Skidmore out-shot Rochester, 18-6, and held a 13-9 edge on penalty corners.
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets play at Union College. The Dutchwomen continued to put themselves in the thick of the Liberty League race by posting a 3-0 win over William Smith. Union is 7-2 overall, 2-2 in the Liberty League and sits in fourth place (tied with Hamilton and William Smith).
