Two Career Highs Fuel Men's Win

Mike Chmielowiec and Marcus Roberson each scored a career high as the University of Rochester overcame Nazareth College, 91-74, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Chmielowiec matched his career high with 25 points, including five three-point goals. He had 25 on opening night when the Yellowjackets defeated Pitt-Bradford. Roberson scored a career high 16 points, hitting six of eight from the floor. Rochester is 2-1.

Jordan Major led Nazareth (0-3) with 17 points, including three three-point goals. Corey McAdam had 11 points and nine assists for the Golden Flyers. Dominique Kendrick scored 11 points as well.

A tight first half (Nazareth led by five early, UR went up by five) ended with Rochester on top, 43-38 after Nate Novosel made two free throws and Roberson hit a short jumper.

Back to back three-pointers by Major in the second half trimmed the Rochester lead to one. It stayed that way after a layup by Jeff DeHimer (9 points) with 14:25 left, pulling Naz within 54-53.

Chmielowiec hit two three-pointers around a trey by Rochester sophomore David Gould. The yellowjackets led by 10, 63-53, with 12:07 left. J.T. Miranda hit a jumper in the lane for Nazareth (63-55) but UR's John Charlesworth sank a three-pointer to give the Yellowjackets an 11-point lead, 66-55, and Nazareth never got closer than 10 after that.

Novosel had 13 points and seven rebounds for UR. Mike Labanowski had 12 points, and Bill Serle scored 11. max Kaplan had some early foul trouble. He wound up with nine assists, three in the second half.

Nazareth struggled from the field in the second half. The Golden Flyers hit 46.9% in the first 20 minutes (15-32), 39.4% in the second half (13-33). Rochester shot 52.9% in the first half (18-34), 56.7% in the second half (17-30).
