Rochester struck for two goals in the first nine minutes and secured a 2-0 victory over the 11th ranked Union College Dutchwomen.
Right off the kickoff, Bridgette Varin split the defense and pushed the ball into the path of Laura Bojko. She slid it into the net from four yards out. The second goal came from Ellen Coleman as a result of a scramble in the goal crease. A Rochester corner kick was knocked down by Union goalkeeper Abby Stohler and fell in front of Coleman who shot to the right side of the net for a goal.
Union's first good chance came with 21:15 left in the first half when Jessica Strang moved to the right side of the arc and fired, only to see it saved by goalkeeper Celeste Hornbach.
The Yellowjacket pressure continued in the second half. Seven minutes after the restart, a corner kick landed at the feet of Kelsey Turley which she shot over the bar. Rochester then battled again with a passing combination which started with Varin to Sara Goico on the right wing. Goico led Coleman who darted into the box and fired, forcing a reaction save from Stohler.
Coleman forced another tough save by Stohler (she finished with eight stops). Her volley was parried across the goalmouth and Stohler had to pounce on the rebound as Bojko charged the back post.
A little miscommunication in the 59th minute nearly led to a Union goal. Strang got her foot to a loose ball and sent it skittering past the right post as Hornbach charged off the line.
Stohler had two great saves in the second half. With 31:10 left, she punched a shot over the top of the bar from Varin. The second save occured with 3:35 in the half when she again stopped Varin's textbook shot from the cornerkick.
The Yellowjackets out-shot the Dutchwomen 17-5. Rochester was also able to produce 11 cornerkicks. Hornbach made two saves.
Rochester has won three in a row (3-1-1). Union is 3-1.
