HENRIETTA, N.Y. – Rochester scored twice in a 10-minute span midway through the second half and rallied for a 2-1 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology in men's soccer.
The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 22 in the current NSCAA Division III poll, improved to 6-1-2 overall. It was the fourth win in the last five outings. RIT, which had won its last two games via shutout, dropped to 3-6.
RIT took a 1-0 lead at 38:04 when Allen Nicholson scored on a free kick. The Yellowjakets equalized at 63:06. Dominic Pellingra dropped a corner kick into the box and J.J. Dennstedt scored his fourth goal of the season in the ensuing melee.
At 73:16, Dennstedt ran down the left sideline and crossed the ball into the middle. Steve Welles headed it farther on and Sean Hantes volleyed home the gamewinner. It was the fourth goal of the year for Hantes and his second gamewinning goal.
Michael Peacock made two saves to pick up the victory. Alan Smith had seven saves for the Tigers. Rochester held a 17-4 shot advantage and a 17-1 edge on corner kicks.
The Yellowjackets open the University Athletic Association season at home on Saturday against Brandeis. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
