ITHACA, N.Y. – Shelby Hall scored on a rebound of her own shot just 2:21 into overtime as the University of Rochester rallied to defeat Ithaca College, 3-2, in field hockey.
Hall's goal punctuated a three-goal run by the Yellowjackets who trailed 2-0, at halftime. It was her second straight gamewinning goal. She scored late in last Saturday's match to snap a 5-5 tie and give Rochester a 7-5 win over RPI.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Yellowjackets. Rochester stands at 8-5. Ithaca slipped to 3-9.
Christi Bottcher set up the first Rochester goal and scored the equalizer just six minutes apart. Allison Beardsley converted Bottcher's pass at 50:20, collecting a ball from the left side and tucking it inside the near post.
Annie Onzik scored just 6:44 into the match for Ithaca. She dribbled into the middle and fired the ball inside the left post. Katherine Brown made it 2-0 at 33:44. Brown picked up a rebound and flipped it into the top corner of the net, beyond the reach of Morgan Anastasio.
The Bottcher-to-Beardsley combination got the Yellowjackets on the board at 50:20. Within six minutes, the visitors were even. Amanda Case took a penalty corner and found Bottcher at the top of the arc. She whistled a hard low shot into the cage.
Hall carried the ball up the left side in overtime and saw Ithaca's Chelsea Welsh turn away her first shot. She scored on the rebound.
Anastasio played the first 35 minutes, made one save, and allowed two goals. Danielle Pearson played the final 37:21. She made five saves. Welsh had a dozen saves for Ithaca.
Rochester held a 24-14 advantage on shots and a slim 8-7 margin on penalty corners.
