Field Hockey Blanks Brockport in Finale



Rochester capped off its field hockey season by shutting out the University at Brockport, 5-0, at Fauver Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Christi Bottcher scored the first goal, then set up two more to lead the Yellowjackets. Amanda Case had two assists. Kyra Pinsky, Tara Gelb, Shayna McKie, and Anna Dobrzynski scored the other Yellowjacket goals.

Rochester finished its season at 11-7. Brockport is 2-14.

For Brockport, Kasey Schreiner made six first half saves and allowed three goals. Jen Allen took over in goal at halftime. She stopped seven shots and allowed two goals. For Rochester, Danielle Pearson earned her fourth shutout this season. She was not required to make a save.

The Yellowjackets had a 25-1 advantage in shots and a 15-0 edge in penalty corners.

In the opening minute of the game, Case played a penalty corner to Bottcher at the right side of the arc. She whistled a shot into the lower left hand corner for her seventh goal of the year.

Pinsky made it 2-0 at 14:39. Case took the penalty corner, got it to Bottcher, and her pass found Pinsky deep in the circle for the goal. Gelb's goal came with 2:37 left in the first half. Bottcher's shot off another penalty corner was saved by Schreiner ahd Gelb steered home the rebound.

Bottcher's pass found McKie on the doorstep at 50:38 for a 4-0 lead. Dobrzynski scored from six yards away on left wing five seconds before the match ended.

Case, Dobrzynski, and Bottcher were formidable scorers during the year. Case scored nine goals, had eight assists for a team-best 26 points. Dobrzynski and Bottcher both finished with 25 points; Dobrzynsk with a team-best 12 goals and one assist while Bottcher scored seven goals and had a team-best 11 assists.

In goal, Pearson played 1139:12. She made 84 saves, had a save pct. of 72.4% and a 1.97 goals-against average.
