Shayna McKie and Anna Dobrzynski each scored one goal as the University of Rochester defeated Vassar College 2-1 to win their third straight game.
Sophomore midfielder Shayna McKie scored less than three minutes into the game to put Rochester on the board. Allison Beardsley beat two defenders and sent a pass from the right wing that found McKie alone in front of the net. The goal was McKie's second of the year.
With just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half, Amanda Case took a penalty corner directed at Anna Dobrzynski. Dobrzynski fired a shot from the left wing that beat Vassar goalie Rachel Horwitz. The eventual game winner was her team leading sixth goal of the season. The assist was Case's second of the year.
With Rochester sitting comfortably at 2-0 and the final minutes ticking away, Vassar moved to the offensive. Held scoreless and without a shot in the first 67 minutes, the Brewers earned a penalty corner late in the game. Vassar's Maura McCarthy fed Jessica Lance for a goal with less three minutes remaining. Vassar earned another penalty corner with no time remaining on the clock, but the Rochester defense was able to clear the ball and secure the win.
Rochester held the advantage in both shots (25-4) and corners (16-5).
With the win, the Yellowjackets improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the liberty league. They will return to action tomorrow evening when they host RPI at 5 pm.
