Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Tied for UAA Lead After 1-0 Victory

Scott Cady broke a scoreless tie in the 14th minute as the University of Rochester men's soccer team defeated #9 Carnegie Mellon 1-0 on senior day.

Cady's goal was set up by a give-and-go between Phil Proud and Jake Cargill. Proud received a lead pass from Cargill on the right wing and played a ball into the center of the Carnegie box. The senior forward timed his run perfectly and headed in the game winner.

Today's contest was a highly anticipated matchup between two teams ranked nationally in to the latest NSCAA/Adidas division III poll (Rochester is #11).

Carnegie Mellon forward Ricky Griffin, who leads the UAA in goals with 18, was held in check thanks to a dominant performance by the Rochester defense. Griffin managed just four shots (none on goal). As a team, the Tartans had just one shot on goal in the game.

Entering the second half with a 1-0 lead, the Yellowjackets had an opportunity to make it a two goal advantage when J.J. Dennstedt was left alone in the center of the box. A cross from Steve Welles found Dennstedt, whose half volley was denied by the crossbar midway through the second half.

The goal was Cady's seventh of the season and second in as many games. He also scored the game winner in a 2-0 win over visiting Emory University on Friday.

Senior goalie Michael Peacock made one save to earn his sixth solo shutout of the season.

The loss was Carnegie Mellon's first in the UAA. The win moves Rochester into a tie for first place in the conference with the Tartans. Both teams are 5-1-0.

Rochester (12-1-2 overall) will travel to Cleveland, Ohio next weekend to take on Case Western Reserve University in the final regular season game for both teams.
