CHICAGO – Jake Pancratz hit all five of his shots from outside the arc to lead the University of Chicago to a 74-54 victory over the University of Rochester at the Ratner Athletic Center.
Pancratz finished with 17 points for the Maroons (6-6 UAA, 6-17 overall). John Kinsella scored 14 points and Michael Sustaric had 10. Chicago sank nine of 16 three-point tries (56.3%). It was Chicago's fifth win in the last seven games.
Mike Chmielowiec (Batavia) led Rochester with 16 points. Bill Serle had 14, and Marcus Roberson scored 10. Nate Novosel had a career-high 14 rebounds. UR (6-6 UAA, 15-8) lost its third straight. The Yellowjackets hit 17 of 56 from the floor (30.4%), five of 17 on three-pointers (29.4%).
Chicago closed the first half with a 7-0 run for a 29-25 lead at intermission. In the second half, Sustaric and Kinsella hit three-pointers in an 8-0 run early in the period for a 41-29 edge.
Two free throws by Novosel ended a 5-0 UR flurry that brought the Yellowjackets within 44-38 with just under 12 minutes left. Sustaric hit another three in the middle of an 8-0 run to push the lead back to 14 and Rochester couldn't close the gap.
