The University of Rochester field hockey team was within two minutes of forcing overtime against visiting Geneseo. That changed when the Knight's Erin Zalewski found Abby Saylor open in front of the Rochester's net. Saylor's goal at 68:12 lifted Geneseo to a 2-1 victory on Friday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.
Geneseo's Stephanie Maisonet (assist to Zalewski) scored the game's first goal at 11:39 in the first half. Zalewski played a long pass through traffic that found Maisonet's stick. Her deflection got past Rochester's Danielle Pearson for a 1-0 Geneseo lead.
Less than four minutes later Rochester's Amanda Case answered back when her wrap around shot snuck in the left side of the goal to even the score 1-1. Case leads the Yellowjackets with four goals on the season.
Danielle Pearson made six saves in goal for Rochester. She was helped midway through the second half when Geneseo's Abby Saylor took a shot that began rolling towards the net. Rochester's Darragh Kerr dove just in time to stop a sure goal with her stick.
Rochester (2-2 overall) was outshot 10-7 on the game. They return to action tomorrow at the University of Scranton. Game time is set for 4pm.
