Second Half Burst Carries Field Hockey

TROY, N.Y. - Rochester erupted to score four goals in a torrid five-minute stretch of the second half and defeated RPI, 4-2, on Sunday.

The scoring outburst helped Rochester finish with a 3-4 record in Liberty League play, one win shy of a playoff spot. Rochester is 7-9 overall.

RPI, which upended William Smith on Saturday, took a 2-0 lead after 16 minutes. Alex Lamparski steered in a pass from Sandy Turnbull at 9:48 and Alissa Peterson scored unassisted at 15:47.

Anna Dobrzynski got the Yellowjackets rolling 11 minutes into the second half. Her goal at 46:00 cut the lead in half. Anisha Gundewar drove home a pass from Shelby Hall at 48:49 to tie it.

Hall, who had a hat trick in a Saturday win over Vassar, scored two more times Sunday. Barely a minute after the Gundewar equalizer, she scored on a pass from Allison Beardsley (49:54) to put Rochester ahead, 3-2. She provided insurance at 51:08.

Madison Wagner made 14 saves in 70 minutes in the Rochester cage. Briana Earle made 15 saves for RPI and the Engineers also had a defensive save.

Rochester held a narrow 29-27 advantage in shots and a 13-9 edge in penalty corners.

The Yellowjackets close out the season with three home matches this week: Wednesday vs. Houghton (7 pm), Friday vs. Morrisville (4 pm), and Saturday vs. Brockport (2 pm).
