Rochester won twice on Sunday over St. Lawrence, completing a four game sweep of the Saints. The Yellowjackets won 8-2 in game one and finished off the weekend with a 13-7 victory.
In the first game, Matt Francis opened the scoring with a bases-loaded single that drove in two runs. Francis later scored on a throwing error in the fourth inning to put the Yellowjackets on top 3-1.
Rochester put the game away after scoring five runs in the top of the fifth. Nate Stein singled home Andy Cannon to increase the lead to 4-1. After a Steve Just single and Francis walk, Casey Storme cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. David Caruso followed with an RBI single to right field, scoring Storme from second.
Senior Steve Guzski picked up the win on the mound. The lefty allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits in five innings of work.
Offensively, the Yellowjackets were paced by Storme's three RBI. Francis finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
In game two, the Yellowjackets scored runs in each of the first five innings en route to a 13-7 win. Steve Just led the offensive attack, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored.
Just drove home Cannon and Stein in the first inning before scoring on a throwing error himself. In the second inning, Brian Bezek scored on another throwing error before Alex Caghan hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 6-0.
St. Lawrence loaded the bases in the bottom of the second and threatened to close the gap. With two outs, the Saints' Tim Harris blasted a shot to deep right-center field. Matt Francis made a diving catch to rob Harris and end the inning.
The Saints got on the board in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on five hits. The Yellowjackets responded with two runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Jon Menke picked up the win for Rochester. The freshman pitcher allowed just one hit while striking out five in six innings.
Caghan's homerun was his third of the season and second of the weekend. He finished the game 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and three runs scored.
With the wins, Rochester improves to 10-2 on the season and 4-0 in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence drops to 6-6 overall (0-4 LL).
