Baseball Loses to Brockport, 6-2

3/31/2010 12:00:00 AM

Rochester's bats were held in check as the Yellowjackets dropped a 6-2 non-conference decision to SUNY Brockport on Wednesday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets fell behind, 4-1, after four innings, and 6-1 through six. Rochester didn't begin to throw any scoring threats at the Golden Eagles until the Brockport bullpen took over. Rochester put two aboard in the seventh, getting runners to second and third, but the threat disappeared. In the ninth, it was the same thing. The Yellowjackets nibbled for an uearned run, then made three straight outs to end it.

Phil DiLorenzo took the loss on the mound. In four innings, he yielded six hits, walked four, and struck out one. He allowed four runs, all earned. Mike Wexler gave up six hits, two earned runs, and a walk (plus a strikeout) in two innings. Corey King pitched two scoreless innings at the end with two strikeouts and one walk.

Offensively, Blayne Fuke was the only Yellowjacket with multiple hits. He was 2 for 3. He singled with two down in the fifth, but was cut down stealing. In the eighth, he singled up the middle, but was erased on a double play.

Rochester got a run in the first. Andy Cannon doubled down the left field line. Alex Caghan bunted him to second. Nate Stein struck out while Caghan stole second. Casey Storme flied to right, scoring Cannon.

In the ninth, Stein singled. Storme's fly to left was mishandled. Stein took third and Storme reached second. Matt Francis lined out. Pinch-hitter Jon Menke bounced out to short with Stein scoring. Pinch-hitter Dan Ludwig grounded out to end it.

The Yellowjackets are 10-3 overall. Brockport is 9-7. Rochester returns to Liberty League action this weekend, hosting Union on Saturday and Sunday.
