Rochester rallied in the last three innings to pull within one run before visiting St. John Fisher was able to hold on for an 8-7 win on Wednesday.
The Cardinals hit three home runs and built an 8-2 lead after five innings. Rochester scored twice in the seventh, twice in the eighth, once in the ninth. The game ended with men at the corners for the Yellowjackets.
In the seventh inning, Jon Menke singled home Alex Caghan for the third Rochester run. Matt Francis hit a sac fly to make it 8-4. Andy Cannon hit a two-run home run to left in the eighth inning, getting Rochester within 8-6. Caghan was hit by a pitch, but Tim Johnson, the sixth hurler for Fisher, retired Nate Stein on a bounceout and slipped a third strike past Steve Just.
In the ninth, Dominic Caruso walked and Francis bunted for a hit. Casey Storme sacrificed the runners up a base. Brian Bezek grouned out, scoring Caruso and moving Francis to third. Blayne Fuke walked but Johnson induced Cannon to fly out to right, ending the game.
Down 4-1 in the fourth, Rochester scored an unearned run when Jon Menke came home after a grounder was bobbled. With men on second and third and two out, Fuke lined the ball into the gap but Fisher centerfielder Sean Osterman made a nice running catch to end the inning.
