Katie Farley knocked home a pass from Michelle Milkovich 51 seconds into sudden death overtime to give visiting SUNY Geneseo a 2-1 victory over the University of Rochester in the field hockey opener for both schools at Fauver Stadium.
Geneseo opened the scoring with 3:21 left in the first half. Kayla DeAngelis tipped home a pass at the left post set up by Erin Zalewski. Rochester equalized through Anna Dobrzynski (from Anisha Gundewar) with 24:30 left in the match.
Rochester's best chance to win the game in regulation came in the final minute. Dobrzynski latched onto the ball just inside the top of the circle and lined a low shot off the right post.
The Yellowjackets (0-1) held an 11-10 advantage in shots. Caitlyn Dowell made three saves in goal for Geneseo. Rochester's Madison Wagner made one save. Geneseo had a 14-4 edge on penalty corners.
