FREDONIA, N.Y. - Rochester defeated Baldwin-Wallace College, 6-3, in what turned out to be the championship match of the Clarion Soccer Classic at SUNY Fredonia.
Both teams won on Friday, with Rochester defeating Penn St.-Behrend and Baldwin-Wallace topping Fredonia. Rochester improved to 4-1 overall.
Ellen Coleman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She scored three goals vs. Baldwin-Wallace and fiinished with five goals and one assist in the two wins. She was joined ont he All-Tournament Team by Bridgette Varin, Meaghan Magee, and Kirsten Ross.
B-W fought back to tie the score twice. Coleman put Rochester ahead in the fifth minute and Varin made it 2-0 at 20:07. Baldwin-Wallace evened it, getting goals in the 39th minute and the 53rd minute.
Rochester broke it open with two goals in 67 seconds. Elizabeth Martens scored from Varin's feed at 56:04 and Coleman struck at 57:11, set up by Cristina Dias and Danielle Crean. Jayne gavrity made it 5-2 at 77:00 from Brittany Huber, and Coleman finished her hat trick with an unassisted goal at 78:31.
