Allison Beardsley scored on a breakaway with 57 seconds left in the second sudden-death overtime to give the University of Rochester (13-6) a 4-3 victory over the College at Brockport (9-8) at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Beardsley had one goal and one assist for the Yellowjackets.
Alexis Vangellow, Katie Flashner, and
Megan Keil had the other Rochester goals. Abby Eschen scored twice for Brockport. Kelly-Ann Henry had a goal and an assist. Jessica Blind had one assist.
Madison Wagner made five saves for Rochester in goal. Kasey Schreiner made 11 saves for Brockport. Rochester held a 24-15 shot advantage and a 17-12 edge on penalty corners.
Henry and Eschen scored three minutes apart midway through the first half for the Golden Eagles. Henry touched the ball home at 21:45 during a goalmouth scramble after a penalty corner. Eschen scored at 24:41, collecting a feed from Blind on right wing and converting from four yards out.
Rochester struck for three goals in four minutes later in the half. Following a penalty corner, Vangellow was in the right position to rap home Rochester's first goal at 29:17. Keil equalized at 30:51. Beardsley outfoxed a defender on the end line, pushed the ball through the crease and found Keil at the back post. The Yellowjackets took the lead at 33:47. Flashner ran onto a loose ball at the top of the circle, dove for it, and backhanded a shot into the lower right corner.
Henry created the tying goal that forced 29 minutes of overtime. She ran through the Rochester defensive circle, drew Wagner to the left post, then deftly touched the ball back into the middle of the goalmouth where Eschen equalized at 51:43.
Beardsley's gamewinner came less than a minute before the teams would require penalty strokes to determine a winner. She collected a 20-yard pass over midfield and broke in alone on Schreiner. The goaltender forced Beardsley to the right side. Beardsley moved clear of Schreiner and pushed the ball into the lower left hand corner of the goal.
