Rochester Edges NYU; Ends Violet Win Streak

Jakob Seidlitz headed in a free kick from Max Fan at 69:44 and the University of Rochester held on for a 1-0 victory over New York University at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Saturday.

Rochester's win snapped a 10-match conference unbeaten streak by NYU dating back to 2009. NYU won the UAA title with a 4-0-3 won-lost-tied record last year and won its first UAA game this year over Case Western Reserve.

The Yellowjackets are 7-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the UAA. The Violets are 6-5-0 overall, 1-1 in the UAA.

Fan earned the free kick right in from of the corner kick circle. He chipped the ball to the far  (right) post. Seidlitz outjumped a defender and headed it just under the crossbar into the left side of the net.

The goal snapped NYU's streak of holdign UAA opponents scoreless at 857:33.

NYU had a couple of good chances to get on the scoreboard. In the 35th minute, Ian Cassell squibbed a shot just past the left post from five yards out after Kyle Green saved a ball on the end line and put it in front. Colm Dillane had a chance to put the Violets in front in the 63rd minute but his shot from the top of the box was saved low by Rochester goalkeeper Scott Garfing.

Rochester had 10 corner kicks to two for NYU. The Yellowjackets outshot the Violets, 12-8. Garfing made two saves. Jonah Poster had three saves for NYU.
