The 2011 UR Chuck Resler Memorial Tournament is in the books.
In the first game of the day, the women's consolation game between the Wittenberg Tigers and SUNY New Paltz Hawks was a down-to-the-wire thriller. New Paltz (0-3) played a great first half and was able to keep the lead at around six the entire first 20 minutes.
Wittenberg (1-2) then showed their toughness and never got down on themselves during the game. Some tough work on the glass by Kim Replogle and Sarah Watson helped pull the Tigers ahead for the first time at 50-49 with seven minutes remaining in the game.
The Hawks were able to withstand the resiliant Tigers for the next few minutes and build the lead back up to six with around two minutes to play. But once again Wittenberg would bounce back and chip away at the lead eventually grabbing a 63-62 lead with a Amber Lara layup with 13 seconds remaining. Coming back down the court, a Shannan Walker layup missed for New Paltz and Lara grabbed the board and was fouled. She then calmly put in the two free throws and after the last second effort by the Hawks missed, Wittenberg was able to claim third place in the Chuck Resler Tournament.
For the Hawks, Kaitlin Clifford finished with 15 points and four assists and was named to the All-Tournament team. For Wittenberg, Replogle recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Enri Small added 11 points and six boards. For her play over the two days, Sarah Watson was named to the All-Tournament team. She recorded 34 points and had 17 rebounds over the two days.

In the men's consolation at 3 pm, Plattsburgh State battled with Ursinus. The first half was played very evenly, with neither team really breaking away at any point, the largest lead for either team in the first half was four. Fireworks came at the end of the first half, which was filled with hard physical play. The Ursinus coach was whistled for a technical foul as time expired for making comments about a no call on some rough play under the basket. The half ended with Plattsburgh (1-2) up by a 37-33 margin.
Ursinus (1-2) seemed to be sparked by their coaches antics coming out hard in the second half. The lead of four at halftime was slowly trimmed and the Bears began to play inspired basketball, moving the ball well and generating high percentage chances. The Bears then took the lead for good at 53-50 eight minutes in after a free throw by JJ Rapczynski and a lay-up by Jon Ward.
Ursinus the methodically began running their offense very well and continued to add to the lead which got to as big as 16 points. Ursinus kept up their solid play all the way until the final buzzer and ended up taking 3rd place by a final of 78-67. The big man Ward was Ursinus' best player, finishing with 23 points and five rebounds. His play landed him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Plattsburgh State was led by reserve John Perez who finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Cardinal Shavar Fields who excelled in the first round game against Rochester was injured at the end of the first half and was only able to record nine points.
