CLEVELAND - All-American Vinny Bell headed home his 19th goal of the season and Case made it stand up with a 1-0 men's soccer victory over the University of Rochester on Saturday evening.
Bell's goal and the shutout by goalkeeper Ben Yabrow (five saves) gave the Spartans a 14-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the University Athletic Association. Case tied Washington for the crown at 5-2. The Spartans will get the UAA's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the strength of a win over Washington in St. Louis last Sunday.
Rochester finishes the regular season at 9-5-2, 3-3-1 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets finished behind Washington, Case, and Emory in the association standings. Rochester's signature wins include a 2-0 victory over then-No. 7 Washington last Friday in St. Louis and a season-opening win over Calvin College in the Flower City Soccer Tournament. Rochester has made six straight trips to the NCAA Division III national championships. The Yellowjackets reached the quarterfinals two years ago.
