FREDONIA, N.Y. -
Elizabeth Martens and
Ellen Coleman scored nine minutes apart in the first half on Saturday as Rochester defeated Mount Union, 2-0, at the Clarion Soccer Classic at SUNY Fredonia.
Rochester won the tournament title with six points from two matches. The Yellowjackets defeated host Fredonia, 1-0, on Friday. The title was secured when Fredonia defeated Penn St. Behrend (which won, 2-0, over Mount Union on Friday).
Coleman was voted as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by
Kristina Diaz,
Rachel Wesley, and
Bridget Lang.
Martens put the Yellowjackets ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute after a corner kick and a scramble in front of the Mount Union goal. Grace Van der Ven picked up the assist. It was the third gamewinning goal of the season for Martens.
Coleman made it 2-0 nine minutes later. She broke through and fired a shot from 18 yards out that was parried. The rebound came back to her and she tucked it home.
Lang played the first half in goal with two saves.
Allison Bernstein played the second half without having to make a save.
Rochester is 4-0. Mount Union is 3-2-1.
