PITTSBURGH - Carnegie Mellon scored a goal 12 minutes before halftime and held on to defeat the University of Rochester, 1-0, in women's soccer on Friday evening.
The Tartans improved to 8-1-2 overall, 2-1 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is 3-9 overall, 0-3 in the UAA. Carnegie was ranked #24 in Division III in the current poll issued by the National Soccer Coaches Association.
Rochester has played six games against Top 25 teams and visits top-ranked Emory on Sunday. Eleven of Rochester's 12 games have been one-goal decisions. Five have gone into overtime.
Bridget Lang made six saves in goal for Rochester. Anna Albi made one save for the Tartans. CMU outshot Rochester 14-4 and earned five corner kicks to one for the Yellowjackets.
Brianna Magill scored the game's only goal at 33:30 when she collected the ball from a rebound off the post and was able to put it past Lang.
