Diaz Scores Late As UR Ties Vassar 1-1

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Senior Kristina Diaz scored her first career college goal late in regulation and then the Yellowjackets held on to hold Vassar College to a 1-1 tie in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Rochester (3-10-1) scored at 84:04 when Diaz fired a 12 yard shot past Vassar goalie Ali Higgins.  Ashley Hunt started the play at the top of the box and found Diaz whose shot found the right side of the net.

The Brewers (9-6-1) got the scoring started when Chloe Wheeler held the ball at the top of the box and then fired a low hard shot past Rochester keeper Bridget Lang.  The goal was her ninth of the season.

In the goals, Lang made 10 saves for the Yellowjackets while Higgins made seven stops for the Brewers.

Vassar held an advantage in shots (31-14) and corners (6-1).

Early on, Vassar had a chance to go up 1-0 in the 20th minute, but Rebecca Pearce-Probs' shot hit the crossbar.  In the second half, Weeler nearly got her second score of the game, but her shot clanged off the crossbar as well.

Junior Grace Van der Ven led UR with three shots on goal while senior Christine Keck attempted two on the Vassar net.

Rochester's next game is a UAA tilt against Washington University in St. Louis next Friday at 5 pm.
