'Jackets Fall to Maroons Despite Early Lead

The University of Rochester fell to the University of Chicago (12-5, 4-2 UAA) 2-1 despite an early goal by UR's Haley Engel.

Fifteen minutes into the game Sunday morning, the Yellowjackets looked to take control of the game when Ashley Hunt weaved down the right side of the field past the Maroon defense and found Engel wide open in the middle of the penalty box.  Engel received the pass in stride and found the lower left corner of the goal to put UR up 1-0.

Chicago answered back two minutes later off a Meghan Derken goal.  Derken was able to capitalize off a rebound from a Brigette Kragie shot that was saved by Bridget Lang.  Lang ended the day with six saves against the aggressive Chicago offense.

With 28:10 left in the first half Natalia Jovanovich took a zero angle shot from the left side that curled around the diving Lang to find the lower right corner of the net putting Chicago up 2-1.  Chicago threatened two more times with a blistered shot from outside the eighteen by Katharine Hedlund that was saved by Lang and another shot from Kragie, which was just wide of the goal.  The game was 2-1 at the half.

The second half showcased two defenses that refused to cede any ground to the opposing offense.  UR managed to produce a chance from a Grace Van der Ven corner that slipped through Chicago's Jacinda Reid's hands to the feet of two eager Yellowjacket players.  However, Reid was able to recover by diving onto the ball.

The game would end 2-1 despite the Maroons out shooting the Yellowjackets 19-2.

Rochester fell to 3-12-1 (0-5 UAA) and play their last game of the season against Case Western Friday, November 3 at Fauver Stadium.
