The Spartans of Case Reserve (8-6-4, 2-4-1 UAA) were able to edge the Yellowjackets 2-1 in a close game on senior night at Edwin Fauver Stadium Saturday evening.
Rochester looked to start the night of celebration on a high note in the first minute when
Heather Alico crossed the ball in and found senior
Kristina Diaz in the middle who ripped a shot, but the attempt was stifled by Case Western's Megan Romelfanger.
With 4:30 retired in the game Kate Dolansky looked to give the Spartans an edge when she took a shot off a rebound created by a save by
Bridget Lang, but
Alaina Wayland was able to recover to save the goal. At the end of the half the game would remain tied.
Three minutes into the second half the Spartans looked to threaten again when Caitlyn McGillis took a shot from the left side, but the shot would not find the target as it sailed just wide of the goal.
Rochester was first on the board when Alico found the post after breaking away on the right side and the ball trickled into the middle of the box only to be buried home by a charging
Hayley Engel putting the Yellowjackets up 1-0. Minutes later Engel would threaten again by sending a screaming shot inches over the crossbar.
However, with 24:45 left in the half Case Western tied the game when Jessie Sabers placed a ball at the feet of Christine Straka who put the ball in the lower left corner of the net.
The Spartans would take the lead and eventually the game with 17:01 left when Deena Levey bent a shot around the fingertips of the Lang putting Case Western up 2-1.
UR ends their season at 3-13-1 (0-7 UAA) after recognizing their seven seniors for all their hard work and dedication and wish them the best of luck in the future.
