ATLANTA, GA - Carnegie Mellon outlasted Rochester, 3-2, to capture fifth place at the UAA Volleyball Championships hosted by Emory University.
The Tartans (15-17, 3-6) won the first match, 25-22, and that was the biggest spread until the decisive fifth set. Rochester evened it at 1-1 with a 28-26 win in the second set. Carnegie won set three, 29-27, but Rochester forced the fifth set by winning set four, 25-23. CMU took the decided, 15-9.
Kelly Mulrey registered 26 kills. The Yellowjackets hit .250 over the five matches, including .353 in the first set and .302 in the third set.
Alma Guevara added 17 kills,
Savannah Benton had 15, and
Sara Ribakove had 10.
Lauren Bujnicki had 28 digs. Mulrey dug 22 balls, and Ribakove had 13.
Xiaoyi Li had 68 assists, nine digs, and three service aces. Ribakove had two aces.
Rochester finished the season at 22-11, 3-7 in the UAA.
