'Jackets Fall To Cross Town RIT 2-1

The host University of Rochester women's soccer team fell 2-1 in a tough match to cross town rival RIT on Wednesday evening at Fauver Stadium.

Quincey Ornellas headed home the game winner in the 79th minute as the UR home stand didn't get off to the start they had hoped.  Rochester plays four more home games in a row, before once again hitting the road in the beginning of October.

The Tigers (3-2) got on the board first with Rachael Bromson tapping in a goal nearly 17 minutes into the game.  The entry pass and assist went to Ashlene Potter who's hard shot just trickled by UR keeper Bridget Lang.  Bromson was right there all alone to tap the goal into the open net.

UR (1-4) would answer back in the 30th minute when Heather Alico put in a rebound off a Grace Van Der Ven shot from the left wing.  The score was 1-1 at the half.

In the 79th minute, RIT would strike again, this time it was Ornellas heading home a goal off a beautiful right wing cross from Chelsea Shoemaker.

The second goal would hold up and RIT took home the win.  In goal, Amanda Murray made two saves for the Tigers, earning her second win.  Lang dropped to 1-4 on the season while making two stops for the Yellowjackets.

The game was very evenly matched with both teams sharing possession throughout the game.  RIT ended with four shots on goal to UR's three.  The Tigers also held the slim advantage in corners, earning four to Rochester's three.  RIT tallied nine total shots while the Yellowjackets fired seven in the direction of the net.

Up next for the Yellowjackets is #19 ranked Union College coming to Fauver Stadium at 4 pm on Saturday.
