HENRIETTA, N.Y. - Rochester defeated Medaille College, 3-0, and SUNY Potsdam 3-1, to finish with a perfect 4-0 record at the RIT Women's Volleyball Invitational. The Yellowjackets won, 25-6, 25-16, 25-17, over Medaille, and 22-25, 25-6, 25-23, 25-19, over Potsdam.
With the 4-0 record for the weekend, the Yellowjackets shared the team title with host RIT. That sets up an interesting showdown on Tuesday when RIT comes to the Palestra for a 7 pm match.
Against Medaille,
Alma Guevara and
Kelly Mulrey had nine kills apiece.
Savannah Benton had five kills and
Meghan Neff added four. Luren Bujnicki had 13 digs as did
Sara Ribakove. Mulrey and
Xiaoyi Li had 11 digs each.
Guevara finished with 11 blocks - one solo block and 10 block assists.
Emma Gira had seven block assists. Neff had one solo and five assists. In all, Rochester totaled three solo blocks and 26 block assists.
Li had 28 assists. Paige Idzuir had two service aces. Li and Bujnicki had one each.
Int he Potsdam match, Rochester hit a spectacular .800 (16 kills in 20 attacks) to defeat the Bears, 25-6 and even the match. The Yellowjackets won set three by two points and the clinching set by six points.
Guevara led the way with 13 kills, two aces, and four block assists. Mulrey had 11 kills, four aces, and 10 digs. Ribakove had six kills and four digs. Benton had eight kills, two solo blocks, and three block assists. Li produced 36 assists to accompany 11 digs. Bujnicki had 16 digs. Neff had five solo blocks.
Rochester improved to 10-3 overall.
