Dara Spital scored on a 10-yard shot with less than 11 minutes to play to lift 20th-ranked Brandeis University to a 1-0 women's soccer victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
The Yellowjackets were unable to clear the ball out of their penalty area. Sapir Edalati got to it and pushed it to Spital on the left side of the box, 10 yards off the line. She turned and hit a rising shot over the reach of Rochester goalkeeper
Bridget Lang. It was her eighth goal of the season and it came at 79:05.
Brandeis improved to 9-1 overall, 1-0 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is 2-7, 0-1 UAA.
Nine minutes into the second half,
Christine Keck's cross from left wing was just over the head of
Katie Sappio who charged down the center of the pitch. A long pass out of midfield from
Kathryn Rowe was just out of Keck's reach with 24 minutes remaining.
Lang made 10 saves in goal for Rochester. For Brandeis, Francine Kofinas made one save in the first half. Michelle Savuto did not make a save in the second half. Savuto earned the victory.
Brandeis held a 20-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
